If you are an ELA teacher...

Before your students start reading their text(s), we recommend the following:

  1. Go to Beginning Your Holocaust Unit to review GUIDELINES and PROPOSED OUTCOMES

  2. Utilize INTRODUCTORY LESSONS and review KEY TERMS

  3. Establish context. Read/discuss the OVER VIEW for each theme, or, at the very least, for Pre-War at this time. (Any or all others can be considered as needed, to compliment the subject text.)

  4. Students read their chosen or assigned text(s)

  5. Review and consider ENDURING LESSONS, particularly CULMINATING WORK

Examining the escalation of hate from bias attitudes to genocide.

By the end of their unit/lessons, students will achieve the following learning outcomes.

Perpetrator, victim, bystander, upstander and other key terms to frame discussion.
