2025 Powell Advanced Summer Institute

The Holocaust Center for Humanity offers an 4-day intensive advanced summer institute designed for teachers of grades 6-12 who have been actively teaching the Holocaust for more than three years. Each day will focus on selected themes and will include reference and discussion of today’s world and practical applications for the classroom.
In a collaborative environment, attendees will:
- Investigate the role social and cultural factors play in shaping identity
- Explore in-depth topics of the Holocaust, resistance, and memory
- Gain practical tools to bring these lessons effectively to their students
- Identify and use materials that align with Common Core State Standards
- Hear from national scholars, local experts, and experienced educators
- Take part in field trips to areas of interest
Requirements:
- Eligible teachers will currently be teaching grades 6-12 in a classroom.
- Eligible teachers must have at least three years of experience teaching the Holocaust.
- In the year following the seminar, attendees will be responsible for incorporating at least one or more of the lessons/concepts from the Institute into their curriculum.
Accommodations will be provided. | Seminar is limited to 20 participants. | Teachers in the Pacific Northwest states are given first priority. | 28 Clock Hours
Participation Fee: $100 due upon acceptance to the program ($50 will be returned upon attendance).
