2023 Theme: Identity and complex questions about the Holocaust

The Holocaust Center for Humanity offers an intensive 3-day advanced summer institute designed for teachers of grades 8-12 who have been actively teaching the Holocaust for more than three years. Existing Powell Fellows are encouraged to apply.

Program Details

In a collaborative environment, attendees will:

  • Investigate the role social and cultural factors play in shaping identity
  • Explore in-depth topics of the Holocaust, resistance, and memory
  • Gain an understanding of the history and peace process related to the Arab-Israeli conflict
  • Gain practical tools to bring these lessons effectively to their students
  • Identify and use materials that align with Common Core State Standards
  • Hear from national scholars, local experts, and experienced educators
  • Take part in field trips to areas of interest

Accommodations will be provided. | Seminar is limited to 20 participants. | Teachers in the Pacific Northwest states are given first priority. | 24 Clock Hours

Participants will explore topics related to Holocaust history, identity, resistance, memory and memorials, and contemporary issues.

Each day will focus on selected themes and will include reference and discussion of today’s world and practical applications for the classroom.
